My name is Joy Tansky and this is a very condensed version of my life!

I was born quite a number of years ago into a strong and loving Christian family.  By the mercy of God I was saved at a young age and able to commit my life to following Christ.  Growing up on a dairy farm meant a childhood of fun and hard work as my siblings and I built hay forts, raised animals for 4-H, and helped our parents at the farm market.  My first job was at the market, scooping ice-cream cones for busloads of tourists!

I earned my Bachelor of Education degree at UVIC, where I specialized in history and geography for secondary school.  After graduation I married Jim Tansky and we moved to Courtenay.  Since then, Jim and I have had two children – Jeremy and Amy.  As a family we love to be outdoors, especially camping and fishing in the summer.  When I have spare time, I love to read, scrapbook, cook for guests, and play games.  As my students know, I have a weakness for chocolate!  My husband and I were able to travel early in our marriage, and we look forward to introducing our kids to the diverse world that God has created by traveling with them in the (hopefully!) near future.

I was first introduced to CVCS when I applied to be a teacher-on-call in 1996, and I began teaching here part-time in 2001.  My favorite subjects are Bible, Social Studies and English.  I enjoy teaching middle school, but I’m particularly looking forward to moving up to the secondary levels as our school expands.  What I love most about being part of this school community are the relationships that are formed as staff, students and parents work together.  Being able to talk to students about God, and help them grow in their relationship with Him makes working at CVCS a privilege instead of just a job.  I believe that a Christian education is a very important gift to give to children, and I'm glad to be part of the team that can make it happen.
